Shigenobu Twilight

Shigenobu Twilight is the debut fragrance created by artist Anicka Yi and architect Maggie Peng. A narrative within a narrative is conceived around the material and the immaterial, where fragrance and narrative are intertwined in conceptual, sculptural and alchemical components to recompose a fictional history, an evocation.

Inspired by the fabled story of the founder and leader of the Japanese Red Army, Fusako Shigenobu, Yi and Peng evoke Shigenobu’s extended exile in Lebanon. The combination of notes in the perfume intimate a metaphor that unravels her experience of living in Lebanon and her yearning for Japan. Shigenobu Twilight is composed of three kinds of cedar wood as its base note with top notes of yuzu fruit, shiso leaf and black pepper as well as hinoki, violet leaf and nutty heart notes.

The bottle is made of raw cedar wood, each hand cut in architectural geometry, encasing a 10ml glass bottle of liquid within. Each bottle is unique with no two alike. A camouflage, the bottles have an iconic likeness yet the details of individuality are elemental.
